Blue Star is Going Green!

Blue Star is proud to be part of the City of San Antonio's Pilot Recycling Program for residential rental communities.

This program introduces recycling to our tenants in an easy and effective way.

Blue Star now proudly displays a Recycling Compactor, provided by the nice folks at GreenStar [formerly Vista Fibers], on-site.

This compactor allows residents to dump glass, aluminum cans, food cans, newspapers, junk mail, cardboard and other plastics into the compactor.

The amount of trash created by the community has been dramatically reduced.

By utilitizing this option, Blue Star residents are helping to 'clean up San Antonio' landfills.  They are 'giving back' to our community.

Up and Coming Artist/Designer Considering San Antonio As Home Base

Up and coming furniture and accessory brand, Gypsy In Stilettos will be in San Antonio during Fiesta to showcase it’s new line of re-purposed, eco conscience furniture and accessories. Its creative director, Luciana Cazares will be hosting an open house and speaking about her inspiration and philosophy for Gypsy In Stilettos.Lucci, as her friends like to call her, has a long history in design and entrepreneurship.

She was an active member of the El Paso Art scene in the 90’s, and had many of her paintings featured in galleries, and private collections.Years later she moved to Puerto Rico where she began working as senior merchandise buyer for a high end fashion retailer. There in Puerto Rico, she developed a passion for tropical foliage and later opened a highly successful flower design studio named Fiori (www.fioritheflowerstudio.com). After being successful with this endeavor, she traveled to exotic lands including deep regions of Mexico, Latin America, Europe and to Northern Africa’s Morocco.

Throughout the years, she developed a fiery passion for worldly fabrics and textiles. This passion eventually led her to become an avid collector of handmade vintage textiles from around the world. Among her influences are the beautiful and exotic Suzani textiles from Uzbekistan in Central Asia. The Suzani has become her signature piece used in her repurposed furniture, where she travels EVERYWHERE to find well preserved vintage

pieces and then proceeds to redesign and reupholster the finds into the luxurious handcrafted textile art. Her keen eye for juxtaposing form and function is what led to the birth of her eclectic Gypsy line. Now, she is designing not only furniture, but fun, fabulous headpieces, bridal pieces, and jewelry all hand made in her studio. All creations have rare vintage items meticulously incorporated into them.

Gypsy In Stilettos was strongly considering moving their headquarters (and Lucci’s studio) to Austin, Tx (where many of her customers reside) until she came to San Antonio last year and completely fell in love. She immediately knew that San Antonio was the place for her. The people, the culture, the river, the well preserved history, it was all beautiful and inspiring to her. So with this said, we are hoping to have a great response within the art and fashion community during her time here. She will be displaying select pieces at her temporary boutique in the King William neighborhood during Fiesta 2010!

Gypsy In Stilettos will be displaying daily at 1115 S. Alamo St Suite 3102 (St. Benedict’s Lofts) from April 19-May 9, 2010. To view her blog, and shop online visit www.gypsyinstilettos.com
