Artist Bio: Kat Shevchenko is driven by inspiration from the natural world, dreams, and life experiences within her fine art and illustration. Drawing from her well of influences ranging from surrealism to metaphysics she creates fantastical imagery poignant in layers of cryptic symbolism that explore the twilight realms of consciousness with an observant whimsical emotion. She primarily works traditionally in oils, casein, watercolor, and ink. Currently based in San Antonio, TX.

Artist Statement: Chimeric Memento is a collection of dreamlike hybridization of feminine figures with natural elements. These beings in themselves are surrealist portraits emerging from a void, which lies on the edge of consciousness. Chimeric in essence means comprised of different parts, as these beings are, an assemblage of organic living fauna, lichen, mushrooms, and fossilized forms that have merged with them in unfamiliar ways. The presence of these natural elements sometimes serves as evidence of adaptation and also as mementos: reminders of where they have been and where they are going, and how they have changed as a result of navigating the obstacles of an absurd yet profoundly mysterious existence.

This month, a portion of the proceeds from this exhibition will be donated to Forests4Water Brazil: Community Climate Action.
