About the event

Exhibition Statement:

Within the contexts of our own media, we use observation and scientific methodologies to dissect what feels familiar, missed and nostalgic. We are both pursuing the spectrums of memory, something which can be simultaneously comforting and unnerving.  Our respective methods of making allow us each in our own way to quantify and contextualize how our brains form perception and memory, how we understand the world as individuals and as members of a social system. The resulting artifacts become a tangible and often tender representation of what can be elusive.

Hilary's Bio:

Hilary Rochow is a multidisciplinary artist and designer living and working in San Antonio, Texas. She holds a Bachelors of Industrial Design from Auburn University. Her formal training in both industrial and graphic design informs her illustrations of impactful figures on clean backgrounds as well as the simple detail of her sculptural works. Her lifelong adoration of the natural world weaves its way into her choice of animal and plant subjects. She has shown work at multiple galleries including Flax Gallery, Space C7, and FL!GHT. She also operates a gallery, Rojo, and studio in the Southtown Arts District in San Antonio.

Alyssa's Bio:

Alyssa Richards is a contemporary artist and UX/UI designer living and working in San Antonio, Texas. Her experience in human centered design informs the formal rigor of her work as well as the cohesive vision for her installations at large. In her studio practice, she focuses on the intersection of the aesthetic and the analytic. Currently, her work applies the investigative lens of scientific studies, pattern, and painting to both familial and personal narratives. She has shown in San Antonio and New York City at spaces including the NYCAMS Gallery, Clamplight, and The Brick. She has also created installations as part of the Site:Lab’s immersive exhibitions in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
