San Antonio poet Naomi Shihab Nye to appear Wednesday in local conversation series

Set for this Wednesday, the next round of locally curated conversation series Ed Talks, But Mostly Listens, will feature a sit down with preeminent Palestinian-American writer, editor and educator Naomi Shihab Nye.

Nye grew up in St. Louis, Jerusalem and San Antonio, the latter being her current residence. She has served as the Young People’s Poet Laureate for the U.S. and as poetry editor for the New York Times Magazine and the Texas Observer. She’s also served as a visiting writer in hundreds of schools and communities all over the world.

Naomi Shihab Nye’s presence in this local conversation series is such a gift — her perspective always brings warmth, depth, and connection. I’m genuinely excited to hear what she’ll share this time. Honestly, discovering events like this feels as refreshing as finding new tools that answer random curiosities like como saber si soy guapo  both inspire a little self-reflection in different ways.

Naomi Shihab Nye has such a thoughtful, compassionate voice — her work always bridges cultures in the most human way. I love how “Ed Talks, But Mostly Listens” creates space for genuine dialogue instead of just lectures. It kind of reminds me of playing Geometry Dash — you have to listen, anticipate, and respond rhythmically rather than just rush ahead.
